4 February 2026
4 Feb 2026, Bintulu - Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (PETROS) has expanded piped natural gas supply to residents of Taman Saberkas Jaya in Bintulu, with household connections successfully completed in December 2025. This milestone marks the second neighbourhood in Bintulu to enjoy direct piped natural gas access, following the launch of the Sungai Plan residential gas supply project in July last year – expanding reliable, affordable and convenient energy to more families.
The Taman Saberkas Jaya project reflects PETROS’ commitment to improving the livelihoods of Sarawakians by expanding domestic gas utilisation and increasing energy access for local communities. This initiative is part of the Sarawak Gas Roadmap (SGR), a strategic initiative by the Sarawak Government implemented by PETROS.
The project involved internal piping installations within residential homes and extensive gas main construction works along the Bintulu–Samalaju coastal road, to enable the safe and reliable delivery of piped natural gas to the neighbourhood.
With the latest phase completed, the first four households in Taman Saberkas Jaya are now enjoying the convenience of piped natural gas for cooking and daily household needs, with a further 21 homes scheduled to be progressively connected by end of February 2026.
The completion of the gas main reticulation pipeline to Taman Saberkas also establishes a strategic infrastructure platform, enabling future expansion of the gas distribution network to surrounding residential, commercial, and industrial developments along the Bintulu–Samalaju coastal road.
These efforts are central to PETROS’ broader commitment to increasing statewide domestic gas utilisation from 6% to at least 30% by 2030, contributing to Sarawak’s long-term energy security and energy transition objectives.
The expansion of residential piped gas supply in Bintulu also demonstrates PETROS’ mandate as the Gas Aggregator for Sarawak, as the company continues to develop, expand, manage and maintain critical gas and energy infrastructure across the State.
PETROS remains committed to its efforts to support Sarawak’s broader gas utilisation agenda under the SGR, ensuring that the State’s gas resources are progressively translated into inclusive benefits for its people.
